Hauger tops seven-driver IndyCar test on IMS road course
Indy NXT champion Dennis Hauger led the seven drivers during Monday’s IndyCar Series test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course.
The Dale Coyne Racing driver turned an unofficial best of 1m10.768s in the No. 18 Honda to lead Ed Carpenter Racing’s Alexander Rossi in the No. 20 Chevy (1m10.858s) and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Mick Schumacher in the No. 75 Honda (1m10.980s).
Behind them, NXT runner-up Caio Collet was fourth in the No. 4 Chevy for AJ Foyt Racing (1m11.048s), Andretti Global’s Lochie Hughes in the No. 98 Honda (1m11.354s), ECR’s Christian Rasmussen, whose running was cut short in the No. 21 Chevy (1m11.493s), and Juncos Hollinger Racing’s James Roe in the No. 76 Chevy (1m11.600s).
After losing time in the morning with timing and scoring beacon issues, teams returned in the afternoon to run in warm, 70-degree temperature and calm conditions.
Collet was the high-mileage performer with 83 laps turned while Rasmussen was limited to 31 with his struggles. Like Collet, it was Hauger’s second recent IndyCar outing. At present, the rest of the newcomers – Hughes, Roe, and Schumacher – do not have additional IndyCar tests on the calendar in 2025.
