Spring Mountain Race Series opens season with expanded classes and thrilling battles
The Spring Mountain Race Series roared back to life to kick off a new season. Right out of the gate, drivers faced their first-ever race on one of the counterclockwise configurations. Running in the opposite direction makes the Charleston Peak North track even more technical and challenges even the strongest drivers.
The Radical Cup Challenge brought a full grid and lively atmosphere, with both new and familiar competitors. Nick Kelly journeyed all the way from Australia, while the Torres brothers returned after a long hiatus – both welcome additions to a busy weekend.
In the Rookie class, seasoned KTM sportscar driver Jeff Fraser made a seamless transition to his new Radical SR3XX, securing first place with confident, consistent laps.
In the Silver class, Bruce Semler leveled up from his Rookie season and continued his upward trajectory by claiming the top step of the podium. Daniel Krynzel took second place for an impressive racing debut, while Jay Torres held off challengers to secure third place after a memorable family battle with Gary Torres.

The Gold class featured nonstop excitement and set the tone for a thrilling season. Tanner Harvey outpaced reigning champion Brandon Rambo in both races, earning a well-deserved victory and leaving Rambo to settle for second. Meanwhile, the fight for third place featured an exciting contest between Gregg Gorski, Ron Fletcher, and Doug Ramirez, with spectators on their feet as Gorski ended the weekend by sealing third on the podium.
Nick Kelly took an early lead in the Platinum class with a first-place finish as the series aims to grow Radical SR10 entries this season.
This season, the Sports Car Series expanded from four to five classes, creating more competitive championships for drivers with a variety of vehicles. A new partnership with Autotork Performance and H.O.K. Motorsports has enhanced member support, offering top-tier service and attracting more sports car enthusiasts to compete. The kickoff race weekend also drew new drivers Zach Bradford, Isaiah Chookul, Kenneth Leavitt, and Greg Kimmel, who joined the club’s seasoned racers for an exciting weekend of racing.

The GTM class featured an exciting first-race duel between Karen Wonnenberg and Michele Abbate, followed by a tense second-race showdown between Gabriel Giannattasio and Karen. Ultimately, Randy Wonnenberg and Chad Lancaster maintained their dominance at the front, with Randy in first and Lancaster in second, while Michele Abbate secured a hard-fought third place on the podium.
The GTL Class saw Paul Chamberlain deliver a commanding performance to secure the win and an early points lead.
John Mueller secured first place in the GT4 class, while Zach Bradford made a strong impression with a second-place finish in his series debut. Meanwhile, Bruce Semler maintained his multi-class weekend momentum with another solid third.
The new GTX class featured Gregg Gorski and Brian Reynolds in an exciting battle. Since Gorski missed race 2, Reynolds earned enough points to move ahead and take the top spot on the podium, leaving Gorski to settle for second.
Finally, in GTU, Jeff Fraser secured first place in his KTM, demonstrating his adaptability in both the Radical and Sports Car Series grids.
