Menzies withdraws from Baja 500 due to medical issue
Bryce Menzies and his Menzies Motorsports team have announced they are withdrawing from this week’s BFGoodrich SCORE Baja 500, for medical reasons.
Las Vegas resident Menzies, 37, suffered an injury during qualifying for the March’s SCORE San Felipe 250. The short-course and desert racing champion set his No. 7 Red Bull/Toyo Tire Ford Trophy-Truck in second place during his run, then went on to earn an eighth-place finish for the SCORE season opener.
Upon returning home constant headaches forced Menzies to a Las Vegas hospital to seek medical attention, where a ruptured a brain artery was diagnosed which had also led to a stroke. Since that time the multiple race Baja winner has taken an aggressive approach to healing but out of caution was not allowed by his team of specialists to participate in this week’s SCORE Baja 500.
“Despite my best efforts to speed up recovery, I still need a few weeks before I am cleared to go racing,” Menzies explained in a social media post. “To all my fans in Baja don’t worry, the No. 7 will be ready to put on a show in September at the SCORE Baja 400. I’m gutted to miss the Baja 500, a race that’s been the highlight of my year for the last 15 years.”
