Larson heads to Charlotte early after crashing out of Indy 500

Kyle Larson’s bid to complete 1100 miles of combined Indianapolis 500 and Coca Cola 600 races on the same day was curtailed for the second consecutive year.

Hendrick Motorsports’ 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion spun on a lap 91 restart entering Turn 2 and took himself, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyffin Simpson and Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Sting Ray Robb out in the melee as his No. 17 Arrow McLaren Chevy rotated low and then went up the track, into an innocent Simpson, and into the wall.

In 2024, he ran all 200 laps at Indy but ended up missing the Charlotte race due to a long rain delay at the Speedway, and in 2025, it was Indy where the lap count fell short.

“It's a bit crazy there on the start,” Larson said. “I got tight behind Takuma [Sato] as I closed in. [Then] I got loose and just kind of all over the place, so I spun. Hate that for everybody that got caught up in it. Just bummed out. I’ll try to get over this quickly and get on to Charlotte and yeah, just forget about it.”

Larson, Simpson, and Robb were uninjured in the incident.
