Jensen set for Peugeot swansong amid Mclaren links

The final race of the 2025 FIA WEC season, Saturday's 8 Hours of Bahrain, will be Danish racer Mikkel Jensen's last with Peugeot's Hypercar team.

Ahead of the race meeting, the French brand has revealed that Jensen will step away from the program after his 26th race aboard a 9X8, which he will contest alongside Paul Di Resta and Jean-Eric Vergne in the No. 93.

“Mikkel has been with us since the very beginning of Team Peugeot TotalEnergies’ FIA WEC journey in 2022,” says Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport.

“He helped build this project, always stood firm during challenging times, and, together with his teammates, delivered three world-level podiums. I want to thank him for his consistent performance and professionalism throughout these four years.”

Confirmation that the 30-year-old is leaving Peugeot comes amid rumours that he will be taking up a new role with McLaren's Hypercar program, which is set to make its race debut in 2027 after a year of development testing with service provider United Autosports.

"Sometimes it’s time for a change, and I’ve decided to move on to another adventure. This weekend will be my final race with Peugeot Sport," Jensen added.

"It’s been an incredible journey together, and Peugeot put their trust in me by bringing me into the top level of endurance racing — something I’ll always be grateful for. Along the way I’ve learned a lot, worked with great people, and we’ve shared many good moments together. Thank you!

"Let’s enjoy the last one together this weekend in Bahrain and finish the chapter on a high!"

Jensen is the latest domino to fall in the WEC's silly season ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Elsewhere in Peugeot's roster, Stoffel Vandoorne departed the team after the race at Fuji, though recent reports suggest he is in line to make a surprise return to Peugeot next year after all. Meanwhile, both Nick Cassidy and Theo Pourchaire have been signed up for 2026, with the latter set to make his WEC Hypercar race debut this weekend in the No. 94.

It remains to be seen what other tweaks and changes Peugeot will make to its lineup before the start of next season. If Vandoorne does indeed make a shock return, Peugeot would have seven drivers on its books and only six race seats to fill for the season.
