Chambers tops Formula E female driver test

Mahindra’s strong Formula E pre-season testing continued on the final day of running at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia with Chloe Chambers putting the team top of the second Women's Test hosted by the championship.

The American set a best time of 1m22.767s in the afternoon session, having already gone quickest in the morning, beating Nissan's Abbi Pulling – who was fastest in last year's Women's Test – by 0.064s.

“Overall, it was a very positive day,” said Chambers. “I think I made a lot of improvements from last year’s Women’s Test, in terms of my driving and driving to what is needed for this car to make it go fast.

“We worked a lot on one-lap pace, and I was happy to improve my driving every time I got in the car. It was definitely a good test overall, and I’ve really enjoyed this experience, working with Mahindra Racing.”

Chambers and Pulling were some way clear of the rest of the field with Bianca Bustamante third quickest for Cupra Kiro, albeit 0.770s off Chambers and 0.706s off Pulling.

Next up were the Envision Racing pair of Alice Powell and Ella Lloyd. Powell's afternoon was interrupted early in the afternoon session after a battery system error forced her to stop between Turns 4 and 5, bringing out the red flag briefly.

Jamie Chadwick – who along with Powell had a spell atop of the times during the morning session – sixth for Jaguar TCS Racing and Tatiana Calderon, who had a spin at Turn 7 early in the day, seventh for Citroen Racing.

Nerea Marti was eighth for Andretti, with Juji Noda in a second works Jaguar and Marya Garcia driving for Lola Yamaha Abt completing the top-10.

Gabriela Jilkova was fastest of the two cars fielded by Posche but ended the day outside the top-10 in 11th, ahead of DS Penske's Jess Edgar and fellow Porsche runner Janina Schall, while Lindsay Brewer completed the 14-car field in DS Penske’s other car.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
