A year out of IndyCar, Grosjean wants back in

The one-year anniversary of Romain Grosjean’s last IndyCar Series race has arrived and the Swiss-born Frenchman is eager to bring an end to his open-wheel hiatus.

The Formula 1 veteran spent four seasons in IndyCar with Dale Coyne Racing (2021), Andretti Global (2022-23), and Juncos Hollinger Racing (2024) before taking a step back to serve as PREMA Racing’s reserve driver while competing as a factory Lamborghini Squadra Corse pilot in IMSA GTP. Having spent most of his life in open-wheel racing, 2025 has been an outlier with no F1 or IndyCar competition on the schedule and only a handful of endurance races in the Lamborghini SC63 to satisfy his need to race.

“I miss racing IndyCar,” Grosjean told RACER. “There's no doubt about it. I'd like to do more. When I speak to some teams, they say, ‘We need money.’ And I say, ‘Yeah, I'm sorry, that's my job, and when I do my job, I get paid.’”

Grosjean was well liked at Coyne’s team, had a combustible experience at Andretti, and had a mostly positive experience at Juncos Hollinger before it turned to taking partially or fully funded drivers. There aren’t many paying seats available in IndyCar for next year, but between Coyne, Juncos Hollinger and any other destinations that might beckon, the 39-year-old wants to be considered for a second tour.

“My value is on track,” he said. “My value is to get a team where it should be. I am not good at bringing sponsors. I'm not good at finding sponsors. But I'm good at taking a race car and a team and putting it where it belongs. So I'm hoping that someone's going to realize that and give me a chance to come back.”
